Okay, so I’m a little partial to books about  bakers, as most of you know, but Sweet Confections featuring a baker and former pro hockey player hit all the high notes for me.
According to Rachel Marconi chocolate heals all
wounds. That and throwing darts at pictures of her ex-boyfriend. Burned by yet
another bad relationship, Rachel decides to reprioritize her life, putting her
dream to compete on a Food Network Challenge on the top of her list and dating
at the bottom crossed out in red sharpie. But what’s a girl to do when a
certain sexy guy keeps asking her out?

Cue in Graydon Green, a former pro hockey player turned restaurant owner. After a lot of persistent and humorous teasing, he finally convinces Rachel to commit to a date. Just when things begin to warm up, threatening notes directed at Rachel arrive. When her bakery is vandalized, Graydon’s protective streak goes on red alert. Is it her obsessive ex-boyfriend stalking her? Or maybe a challenger trying to sabotage the competition?

Either way, Rachel is definitely going to need more chocolate – perhaps
drizzled over ice cream and devil’s food cake.

Great characters that made me laugh out loud and fall in love–as any good romance should. The suspense angle is a nice counterpoint to their Rachel and Graydon’s growing relationship and I love how he just nudges himself into her life despite the fact that she’s determine not to get involved in a romance again anytime soon without coming across as pushy or stalkerish. And he handles her, um, fascinating family with aplomb.
This book is the first of series Danyelle is planning in Crystal Creek as a group of women move into refurbished homes turned into businesses on Indulgence Row. I’m already looking forward to learning more about her characters in book two.
And playing with a few of them myself in my cross-over series. Which starts this summer.
This is Danyelle’s first published romance, though not her first book, but romance has been a love of hers for most of her life. If you’re intrigued by the book, check out some first chapters on her blog. You can also check out her website, become her fan on Facebook or go buy a copy for yourself on Amazon, Barnes & Noble and soon, Kobo.
Oh yeah, and did I mention there was a giveaway in conjunction with her book launch? Check it out!
